Abandoned in a car park

Story:

This young boy Pedro was tied up in the end of car park with no water, food or shelter from the sun for at least two days before he was reported.

We have no idea what happened to Pedro, unfortunately not many car parks here have CCTV, but he was frightened and hungry when DAS went to rescue him. 

Although rather thin, Pedro was generally in fairly good health which suggests that he had an owner who simply abandoned him.  He was very wary and scared at first but is now starting to settle into sanctuary life.  We hope one day we will find him the loving home he deserves after all he has been through.

Taffy

Where from:

Neglected in a field

Story:

Taffy had been tied up in an open field on a short rope and living inside a concrete pipe since she was a puppy.    


One of our supporters who rescues many dogs on his own was trying to feed her.  However, over time she developed a skin condition which became infected and developed terrible wounds.


When she started to become very sick the owners of the field untied her and tried to chase her away. Fortunately for Taffy, DAS had some space after a number of recent adoptions so she was brought to the sanctuary as her reporter already had too many rescues.

Taffy has been with us for a month and with cage rest, nourishment and medication for mange she is starting to recover. She is still in the clinic receiving treatment but we look forward to seeing her personality emerge as she gets used to her surroundings and starts to feel better.

Where from:

Thrown in a sack outside the shelter

Story:

Snow, her sister Ebony and her brother Alfie were tied up in a sack and thrown outside the Sanctuary.  They were tiny when we rescued them – only around 4 weeks old. 

Her brother was very sick and died a few hours after we brought them into the Sanctuary, and 
Ebony got adopted when they were both around 10 weeks.

Poor Snow did not get adopted, possibly because even after 6 years at the sanctuary, she is still quite wary of strangers and doesn’t approach even our regular volunteers, but she is good with other dogs and never gets into fights or squabbles.

Snow now resides at the new sanctuary where she has much more space and comfort and we hope her new environment will give her more confidence with her hoomans,

Where from:

Reported wandering with facial injuries

Story:

In March 2026 we had a number of reports oof a poor dog wandering around with a huge hole in his face and other sores all over his underbelly.

We brought him in and it quickly became apparent that the wounds were due to a canine cancer known as TVT which he would not have survived without treatment.  We have successfully saved many rescue dogs with TVT and saved a lot of dogs in the community through our low cost clinic, so we had high hopes we would be able to do the same for Zeus.

Zeus' chemotherapy treatment is now complete and he is a lively boy who just loves going on walks.  Staff describe Zeus as being smart, playful and protective.  He still has the whole in his nose which is slowly getting smaller - we don't know if it will ever close but fortunately it doesn't affect his energy.

Where from:

Wandering on Bacong Diversion Road

Story:

Woody was found wandering around on the extremely busy Bacong diversion road, covered in mange and malnourished, along with fellow suffering stray pup, Buzz.


Woody has been with us for about 18 months now and with his confident nature, he is often the ring leader of the younger dogs in the sanctuary,  He lives in a pack of younger dogs who occupy the central area of the main sanctuary.

Woody is still bonded with Buzz, the younger dog who he was rescued with and, together they always try to get maximum attention from staff and volunteers, by jumping up to get close enough for ear rubs and cuddles.  Now fully recovered, he's developed into such a handsome and healthy boy!
