Gyoza
She passed away from a respiratory infection that should couldn't fight off in her weakened state. Such a tragedy for a tiny soul not given a proper chance to live a full life.

One of five puppies dumped in a road in a bag (one escaped only to be killed by a vehicle), Dottie didn't have the best start in life. Within days of arriving at the Sanctuary on 27 April 2021, she stopped eating and became listless, and after a series of tests, an acute bacterial infection was diagnosed.

Dottie
She eventually recovered, but it was only a short time before she tested positive for Distemper during the outbreak in May - July 2021. Coming so soon after such a life-threatening condition, her weakened system could not cope, and she passed away on 19 May 2021.

Dottie
Her few short months have moments of happiness and contentment, and it is with great sadness we say goodbye to her.

We found Richie abandoned in Bacong Cemetery along with his brothers Reggie and Roddy on 11 April 2021. After only a couple of fun-filled weeks, he was adopted together with his brother Roddy, and looked set to spend the rest of a happy life being cared for (see here for that story). He was a happy soul and full of life.

Richie
Unfortunately, by 29 April, Richie was showing signs of the Canine Distemper outbreak this area experienced in May / June 2021 . Young pups and sick older dogs are less able to fight off Distemper (find out more here), and it is likely Richie and his brothers were already infected when they were rescued. It is not possible to test for Distemper until symptoms appear, which can take up to six weeks. Poor Richie just coundn't quite fight off the virus, and he passed away at the Sanctuary on 8 May 2021. Richie's adopters were distraught, but eventually found it within themselves to provide a home for another puppy, Pumpkin. We are so sorry we couldn't do much for young Richie, but are heartened by the thought that he knew happiness, warmth and cuddles in his short life.
