Pumpkin Adopted!

Pumpkin Adopted!

Another extra happy adoption story.  Pumpkin has been adopted by the same family who took in siblings Ritchie, Reggie and Roddy (see News Post Reggie Ritche and Roddy Adopted!).

Pumpkin adopted

Sadly, poor Richie didn't survive the Distemper infection he must have had before he even arrived at the Sanctuary, but all the other pups did.

After a while, the family decided they were ready to adopt another pup and came back for Pumpkin. Here she is with her adopted her brother Roddy.

Jake Adopted!

Jake Adopted!

As we reported last week, Jake was recovering in foster care from an operation to remove bladder stones, but it only took Mark only 5 days to fall in love with Jake and give him a permanent home!

He has now been given the official name of Jacob Marley Keating - thanks to Mark and family for adopting him, and thank you to everyone who donated for Jake at his time of rescue, for his amputation and for his recent surgery and to everyone who donates generally.  That dog lying happily on his back is only there because of you!

River injured but recovering

River injured but recovering

Last week, poor River cut his hind leg quite deeply on something.  We did a full sweep of the Sanctuary to find and remove all potential sharp objects, but we are still at a loss as to how he did it.

River in Quarantine allowing his leg stitches to heal

He needed stitches, and to ensure the wound heals well, we kept him in Quarantine and put a collar on him to make sure he didn't bite at the wound as it heals.  He's not happy being in the Quarantine, but it's for his own good!

Follow this link to read River's story on his Profile Page.

Dottie

Dottie

One of five puppies dumped in a road in a bag (one escaped only to be killed by a vehicle), Dottie didn't have the best start in life. Within days of arriving at the Sanctuary on 27 April 2021, she stopped eating and became listless, and after a series of tests, an acute bacterial infection was diagnosed.

She eventually recovered, but it was only a short time before she tested positive for Distemper during the outbreak in May - July 2021.  Coming so soon after such a life-threatening condition, her weakened system could not cope, and she passed away on 19 May 2021.

Her few short months have moments of happiness and contentment, and it is with great sadness we say goodbye to her.

You can find out more about Distemper here.

Jake’s surgery is a success!

On 11 May 2021, Doc Gama from Animal Wellness removed a lot of stones from Jake's bladder, and said it was lucky that we did the surgery when we did or it would likely not have ended well for Jake.

He stayed under observation  at Animal Wellness for three days, then moved to his temporary foster home to fully recover, away from the Sanctuary and the possibility of Jake picking up something while his immune system is under stress.

Here's some pictures of him in his new surroundings.
