Fiona

Fiona

On August 5 2021, we rescued four very young puppies from a mother who a had not been able to feed them as she had a facial injury and couldn't eat. She had no milk to offer her young puppies and was difficult to catch.

With the offer of a foster if the puppies were rescued, we took them in.   Two of the puppies were very weak, and sadly little Fiona passed away the next day.  At least she died in a comfy bed with her own name.

Shaun gets a checkup

Shaun gets a Checkup

As we still don't have our blood machine, every Friday we take Shaun to Animal Wellness for a blood test.  His red blood cell count has been low for weeks despite him having a lot of food and regular iron injections, and he has a lump on his bottom that hasn't gone down despite anti inflammatory medications and antibiotics.

Shaun gets a checkup

We discovered a common ailment that is likely causing Shaun's red blood cell count to be low - hook worms. We did a faecal analysis and saw them. We gave him Dewormer so we hopefully will see an improvement in next week's tests.
We also did an ultrasound and xray on the lump on his bottom, there is fluid inside so it's not a hernia, but the skin around it is very thick.
Doc Gama gave him medication for it and if in two weeks it hasn't gone we will have to do surgery.

Shaun's lump is ultrasounded

Dog in a Hole

Dog in a Hole

Perfectly camouflaged, Brownie relaxes in her hole dug out at the base of the big tree just outside the Sanctuary.  She'd just come back from a walk with the other (younger) dogs and had an attack of "the zoomies" aka running round in circles chasing her tail.  Blink and you'd miss her - brown dog in the brown mud!  Brownie is an old soul with a young heart - if you want to know more about her, check out her Profile Page on the website.

Ally and Dean Adopted!

Ally and Dean Adopted!

Ally and Dean Adopted

What's better than one of our dogs being adopted? Well, TWO of course

Dean is one of five puppies dumped in a road in a bag (one escaped only to be killed by a vehicle), he arrived on 27 April 2021, and after a promising start, he, along with siblings Dirk and Dottie contracted Distemper in the outbreak of May-July 2021.

Donny was adopted, but sadly, Dirk and Dottie didn't make it (click on Dirk,  Donny or Dottie to see more), but Dean survived, and grew to be a very sociable and happy soul. He recently graduated from the Puppy Run, and had been out for the first few walks on a leash.

Ally was spotted on a construction site by our regular foster/adopters Nic and Bryan in April 2021. She survived the Distemper outbreak of April-June 2021, slowly managed to recover her coat, and recently graduated into the main community. She is a very energetic dog, and doesn't care who's face she licks!

The Ally / Dean combo was irresistible to Steve and his partner Bea. Steve had fostered for DAS a few years ago, and always wanted to provide a permanent home for some rescues. Ally and Dean chose them, and are now settling into their new home. Thanks Steve and Bea!

A new BFF for Shaun

A New BFF for Shaun

Puppy Marvin is such an inquisitive bundle of energy, we decided to match him up with Shaun, a similar force of nature.  They took to each other straight away, and we give them time together each day.  We have to be careful as Marvin is still so tiny, even Shaun seems gigantic in comparison!  Find out more about Shaun and Marvin on their Profile Pages.
