Flynn

Flynn

On August 5 2021, we rescued four very young puppies from a mother who a had not been able to feed them as she had a facial injury and couldn't eat. She had no milk to offer her young puppies and was difficult to catch.

With the offer of a foster if the puppies were rescued, we took them in. Two of the puppies were very weak, and sadly little Fiona passed away the next day. Flynn battled on, but when pups are taken from their mother too soon, they don't get immunity from the milk so they are really vulnerable to all sorts of illness.  Flynn's mother had no milk, so we had take them in. We put them on IV as soon as they started to get weak, but we couldn't save Flynn who passed away on 8 September 2021, along with his brother, Frodo.

Wonton Adopted!

Wonton Adopted!

We had some wonderful news today, our new vet assistant Adrian adopted Wonton.
With the growing number of rescues, we had to take on another vet assistant. Adrian has just passed his probation period and fell in love with Wonton.
We are really lucky to have found Adrian.
He's super reliable and hardworking and the dogs love him, especially Shaun! He follows Adrian around everywhere.
Welcome to DAS, Adrian!

You can find out more about Wonton on his profile page here.

Finding a permanent, loving home is the ultimate goal for our rescues at DAS.  If you think you could provide a home for life, without cages and chains, for one of our rescues, then please look for more information here.

Vincent

Vincent

Little Vincent fell victim to the Parvovirus (aka Parvo) on 6 September 2021. He was found abandoned in the road near the Sanctuary, something that is becoming increasingly commonplace sadly.  He was perhaps 6 weeks old. Parvo is not airborne and doesn't cause much of a problem to older vaccinated dogs but it is really dangerous to young puppies.

It affects the digestive system and some of the first signs are loss of appetite, vomiting and poop in the blood.  It can kill very quickly - often 3 days after the first signs. There is no cure as it is a virus, all you can do is support the immune system and keep the puppy hydrated.
