Luca adopted!

Luca Adopted!

Little Luca was found on Luca Street in Dauin by one of our volunteers Dana.  He couldn't have been more than 10 days old - his eyes had yet to open.  Despite being quite big (and having an appetite to match), he was riddled with fleas and had some wounds full of maggots.  He was bottle fed from the beginning, and we are so grateful that Irish and Mike stepped up to adopt him.  He is SUPER photogenic - we can't wait to see what a handsome dog he's sure to grow into.  Just check out his beautiful gallery of pictures taken mostly by Corri on one of his early expeditions into the great outdoors!

Rocky

Rocky

On 18 January 2022, we picked up this poor boy who had a large pus filled mass on his snout.  We initially had no idea what happened to him - possibly a hit and run or a tumor. His jaw was also infected. He looked like he had been like this for a while and was very weak.

We sent him to Animal Wellness for x-rays to determine the cause of the lump which turned out to be a huge tumor that had eaten away his nasal cavity and infiltrated his upper jaw and part of his forehead.

Chemotherapy was not an option and his only chance for survival was to remove his whole
upper jaw and snout and part of the skull in his forehead. There was no way we could allow him to suffer in this way, so we made the extremely difficult and heartbreaking decision to let him go painlessly and surrounded by love.

He passed at 4:20pm on Tuesday 19 Janaury. It was honestly truly heartbreaking - we were just too late. We are so so sorry for what you had to endure.  Thank you to Malou at PAWSsion Project for sharing our posts about Rocky and to all your supporters who sent in donations.  Thank you to all our DAS supporters who donated to his treatment costs.
We will use the remainder of the funds to rescue another poor soul.

Olaf available for adoption once more

Olaf available for Adoption Once More

We take the welfare of our adopted dogs very seriously and regularly check in on them.  If we have concerns we often visit their homes unannounced to check how they are being looked after.
Adopters sign a contract that states our requirements and also that if we feel the dog is not being given adequate care, we take them back.
We had concerns about Olaf. We did a home visit and found he was not being cared for adequately.
We won't give details as we don't want to have a stream of negative comments but he is back at the Sanctuary.

Not every dog who goes home is adopted

Not every dog who returns home is adopted

Some strays are actually doing fine living a life without a human owner, scavenging for scraps or being fed in the community.  It can be a great life, until injury or illness strikes.  Pia and Holly are two happy examples of a pair of dogs who, once their problems were stabilised at the Sanctuary, were returned to their communities to carry on their lives as before.  Whilst these cases may not strictly speaking be "Adoptions", we celebrate every life that we are able to support, whether they have their own humans or not!  Check out their stories on the profile pages for Pia and Holly.

Buddy adopted!

Buddy Adopted!

This tiny love-nugget was barely in the Sanctuary a week before Juan and family snapped him up and adopted him.  He followed our volunteer Corri on her dog walk back to the Sanctuary.  Corri called him Buddy.
