Foxy

Foxy

Foxy RIP

Foxy RIP

On the way to rescue Miani on 3 March 2024 we found this poor little boy dragging himself across the road, dehydrated, unable to use his back legs and crying in pain. He also tested positive for Distemper. This time of year, March, April there is a massive spike in distemper cases.
We cannot bring dogs into the Sanctuary with Distemper as it is highly contagious and kills puppies and dogs in vulnerable states. There is no cure, only preventative vaccinations, which many owners don't do.

Foxy RIP

Foxy RIP

All our dogs are fully vaccinated except for young puppies and new rescues who need to recover from sickness before vaccination.
We took Foxy to the house we use for the occasional vet accommodation as a temporary solution. Sadly, until we can afford a bigger Sanctuary with an isolation unit, we just cannot rescue dogs with Distemper and bring them in to the Sanctuary.

Sadly, he didn't survive, he started having seizures and passed away quickly. At least he was safe and comfortable and had 24 hours of care. Rest in peace little Foxy. You mattered to a lot of people even though others failed you.

Miles and Reina adopted!

Miles and Reina Adopted!

Reina and Miles adopted

Reina and Miles adopted

We couldn't be happier with one of our recent double-adoptions.  Marianne and Mark were looking to adopt one or two adult dogs, and made a number of visits to the Sanctuary to see who they bonded with.  We see so many puppy adoptions, it's a delight when not one, but two adult dogs find their home.

Miles is one of our longer term residents, and is a lovely-tempered boy.  It was love at first sight when Mark met him!  Has has had problems over the years with his coat, with little hot spots appearing now and again.  In a close environment of nearly 200 dogs some will be more susceptible to mites and allergies.  As there will just be him and Reina at their new home, we are hoping these little irritations will disappear completely.

Reina was a more recent rescue,

and walked right up to Marianne on one of their visits and made it quiet clear that she wanted to go home with them!  She's a gentle and inquisitive soul, and a good match for the more elderly Miles.

We wish them both all the luck in the world, and look forward to seeing how they settle in to their new home.  Thanks Mark and Marianne!

Zara and Zuri adopted again

Zara and Zuri Adopted Agaun!

Zara and Zuri adopted again

Zara and Zuri adopted again

We're delighted that Zara and Zuri have been adopted together again, we wish them all the best. We bought them back to the Sanctuary as their first adopters could not keep up with their vaccinations, despite us offering them for free for the first year.  It's really not much to ask, and is part of the Adoption Commitment we ask all our adopters to read, understand and comply with.

Lagum

Lagum

Lagum

Lagum

This is the saddest post. We had to put Lagum to sleep this afternoon (29 February 2024) and it was extremely distressing.
We did every test possible to find out what was wrong but could not find the cause of her intense pain. There were no broken bones or organ issues but she screamed non stop pretty much for the last three days. She had to basically be put in a comatose state for her to get any respite. All the vets we consulted say it must have been a brain issue as she kept pushing her head against the mats she was lying on. One possibility is advanced stage tetanus as her limbs were quite stiff.
It's so hard to witness suffering like this and not be able to alleviate it.
The kindest thing to do was to put her out of her suffering. Thank you to everyone who donated for this little girl.
Run free Lagum. So so sorry you had to suffer as you did.

Midnight – Adopt a Stray

Midnight

Midnight

Midnight

On 27 February 2024, under our "Adopt a Stray" programme, we rescued a starving dog barely able to stand.  She was limping badly, full of ticks, fleas and worms, and had a discharge from her eyes.

We will investigate her mobility issues, deal with her infestations, and get her well fed and ready to begin her new life with her reporter.
