REINA

Reina

In October 2023, we rescued a starving stray with terrible mange. If she was on the street much longer she would have ended up in the same condition as poor Lois and Lewis.  We called her Reina, meaning Queen.

Reina after two weeks

Reina's Story

On 18 October 2023, we rescued a badly malnourished dog, with a severe cast of crusty mange.  When dogs look like this, they rarely get the care and attention they need as people understandably do not wish to go near them to offer help.  It's a shame, as Mange is easily treatable, sometimes with very inexpensive, easily obtainable medications.

After two weeks' treatment, the Mange has completely gone, and she's beginning to put on some weight, although slowly.  Her hair will grow back eventually.  She is a sweet natured girl but still a little unsure of strangers.  It's clear to us that when a dog shies away like she does, it's because of her treatment at the hands of other humans.  Dogs are not born with a fear of humans, they learn to fear if treated badly.

We hope she continues to regain her health, and confidence, and finds a new home full of care and love.

Miles and Reina Adopted!Reina and Miles adoptedWe couldn’t be happier with one of our recent double-adoptions.  Marianne and Mark were looking to adopt one or two adult dogs, and made a number of visits to the Sanctuary to see who they bonded with.  We see so many puppy adoptions, it’s a delight when not one, Click to see post….
