Michai

After contracting Distemper during the outbreak in May 2021, Michai died of acute Pancreatitis on Sunday 13 June 2021. It was heartbreaking. She was such a beautiful soul. The tragedy is that she was to be adopted next week along with Gandalf.

Michai died of acute pancreatitis likely due to the impact of Distemper on her system.  Like the majority of our dogs, Michai had been vaccinated against Distemper, but as with all vaccines, 100% protection is not guaranteed.  We really did everything we could and had our two vets and Doc Gama from Animal Wellness all trying to save her.

You can find out more about Distemper here. Rest in peace little one, you were very, very loved. Read more about Michai's life before and after rescue on her Profile Page.

Michai suffering from Distemper

Michai suffering from Distemper

Another dog tested positive today - Michai.
She is fully vaccinated and otherwise healthy so we are hoping that it will just be a mild infection and she will fight it.

Michai

The dog's immune system is the only defence against Distemper.  Vaccinated dogs can still get the virus but it is often much milder and the immune system can kill it.  They can recover at any stage, but unvaccinated dogs , sick dogs and puppies are the most vulnerable and often die from the disease.

You can find out more about Distemper here.
If you own a dog, please get them vaccinated. Distemper is now rife in Dumaguete - that's how it arrived in our Sanctuary.

Please keep Michai in your thoughts and follow this link to read Michai's story on her Profile Page.
