BLANCA

Blanca

Blanca was initially rescued by an Animal Welfare charity called CARE. She was bought to DAS in 2019, and was unsociable while she was there and was difficult to get near.

It’s not clear what her life was before she was rescued, but she remains very wary of people.

Blanca's Story

Blanca was transferred from CARE to DAS in 2019.  A few days after we brought Blanca in – she escaped. And no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get near her. She never left the area outside the Sanctuary so we fed her outside and slowly tried to gain her trust.

Unfortunately, she got pregnant while living outside and gave birth to 9 puppies at the end of March 2020. 3 died and 6 survived.

This was the only time we were able to catch her and bring her into the Sanctuary.

Blanca and her puppies

Despite being raised in the Sanctuary, the puppies were really unsociable. We managed to get two adopted but 4 are still currently at the Sanctuary.

She has always had bad skin – despite giving her Nexgard in her food a number of times.
A few months ago we noticed that she had open wounds starting on her back so we trapped and caught her and checked her out. We found out that she had mast cell tumors and had to do surgery to remove them

Unfortunately, they grew back so we had to remove them again last month. There is a chemo drug that can be used but we can’t get it here so the only option is surgery every time they grow back.
