WHOOPIE

Whoopie

In January 2024, we took in four puppies that had been spotted abandoned by one of our regular volunteers, Richard.  Two were adopted within a month or so, but sisters Wanda and Whoopie were left behind.  They are both wonderful young ladies, deserving of a home of their own

Whoopie's Story

On January 2024, one of our volunteers Richard reported four young puppies abandoned not far from the Sanctuary.  Willa, Whiskey, Whoopie and Wanda were gathered in, and Willa and Whiskey were adopted in February and March.

Before Whoopie or Wanda could follow suit, the Sanctuary was hit by another Distemper outbreak.  We test every dog we bring in for a number of infectious diseases, but it's near impossible to screen out everything, especially as Distemper can lie dormant and undetected for some weeks before becoming apparent.  We can think we are in the clear only to find a dog test positive some weeks after being rescued.

We cannot rescue or adopt any dogs during this period, so their early months of puppyhood when they stand the biggest chance of being adopted were denied to them.  This is such a shame, and a pressing problem for us, as the months slip by they become less attractive to most potential adopters.  There's no real logic behind this - after all, the character and nature of a young dog becomes apparent as they approach adulthood, so a potential adopter has a much clearer idea the temperament of their new family member if they are more than a few months old.

Whoopie loves cuddles and attention, and we so hope that someone can find room in their home and heart for her.
