JAKE

Jake

Jake was rescued from the highway in January 2021.

He clearly had a badly broken leg, and we did the only thing we could  - amputate.

He is adapting well to his new mobility style!

Jake's Story

We had been having reports about Jake for a couple of months but could not find him when we went to look.
One day, Rina and Rudylyn saw him and managed to catch him.

Jake during rescue

He was of course very wary when we got him – kept his distance and did not like been locked up in quarantine.

Jake's X-rays

We sent him for x-rays and it was obvious the only option for him was amputation. We were worried because of his age. He appears to be around 11-13 years old.

During his surgery, he lost a lot of blood and he nearly didn’t make it.  His recovery has been slow, which is unsurprising given his age.

He is now recovering well, he is able to hop around on his three legs but the other day, He forgot he only has three legs and tried to cock his leg to wee and nearly fell over, he soon readjusted and crouched down to wee.
His hair is now starting to grow back and he wags his tail when he sees us.
I have never heard him bark though!!

Jake after his operation

This sad short video shows Jake before he was rescued.  He was in very poor shape indeed, and his broken leg must have made life so much more difficult.
