Vincent

Vincent

Little Vincent fell victim to the Parvovirus (aka Parvo) on 6 September 2021. He was found abandoned in the road near the Sanctuary, something that is becoming increasingly commonplace sadly.  He was perhaps 6 weeks old. Parvo is not airborne and doesn't cause much of a problem to older vaccinated dogs but it is really dangerous to young puppies.

It affects the digestive system and some of the first signs are loss of appetite, vomiting and poop in the blood.  It can kill very quickly - often 3 days after the first signs. There is no cure as it is a virus, all you can do is support the immune system and keep the puppy hydrated.

Arwen

Arwen

Little Arwen passed away last night.  We don't know exactly why as her blood tests didn't indicate any real concern. It was a pretty normal profile for a new rescue.
But she was riddled with worms, so even though we dewormed her immediately on rescue, worms often cause a lot if damage to organs.

It's so sad as Kate and Paolo of ECE Were going to adopt her when she was well.  So sorry Arwen that we couldn't save you, we tried our best but we were too late.  You can read Arwen's full story here.

Fonzi

Fonzi

On August 5 2021, on the way back from rescued four very young puppies, we found little Fonzi not far from the Sanctuary.

He was very weak, probably only a few weeks old.  He fought hard, but passed away on 11 August 2021.  Run free little Fonzi.

Fiona

Fiona

On August 5 2021, we rescued four very young puppies from a mother who a had not been able to feed them as she had a facial injury and couldn't eat. She had no milk to offer her young puppies and was difficult to catch.

With the offer of a foster if the puppies were rescued, we took them in.   Two of the puppies were very weak, and sadly little Fiona passed away the next day.  At least she died in a comfy bed with her own name.
