Lauren

Lauren

Young Lauren led a tragically short life, and one that need not have been so curtailed.  She died on 3 February 2022 from total organ failure caused by the neglect of the family that had stepped up to adopt her late last year.  Following her successful spay operation earlier this year, it took the intervention of neighbours to alert us of her infected operation wound and worsening condition.

There is simply no excuse for the adoptive family who so badly let her down by not taking adequate care of her post-operation, and ignoring her serious deterioration for weeks on end.

It was heartbreaking to watch her deteriorate and not be able to do anything to save her.  Thanks go to Jack and Aldwyn for sponsoring her and coming to visit her regularly. We are sure she felt your love.  We gave her every possible medication and medical procedure that we could and also assigned 24 hour care.

We just couldn't save her.  Lauren was the sweetest little girl and her death was totally unnecessary.  There are laws against animal abuse and neglect, but we have not the time or resources to pursue such a case.  We welcome anyone who is willing to take on the filing of cases and raising funds to prosecute.
Rest in peace Lauren - you were loved so very much and we are sorry that the people entrusted with your health and safety were found to be so severely lacking in compassion, honesty and care.  You deserved so much better.

Suki

Suki

Suki died in the early hours of 28 January 2021.
Since her rescue in 2019, she seemed to be bullet-proof, surviving Parvovirus and Distemper.  In January she began to show signs of listlessness and distress, and we ran some tests, coming up with a double-diagnosis of two very debilitating diseases Erlichiosis and Anaplasmosis.

We had given her every possible medication but she just couldn't overcome it.
Adrian was doing night shift at the Sanctuary and when Suki's breathing became laboured he called Rina and Rachelle who came back to the Sanctuary immediately. They also had Doc Desiree instructing them what to do, but Suki's platelets were non-existent and she hemorrhaged.

We all loved Suki so much. We had her from a tiny puppy when we rescued her with her mum Fury two-and-a-half years ago.  Read more about Suki's life before and after rescue on her Profile Page.

Rocky

Rocky

On 18 January 2022, we picked up this poor boy who had a large pus filled mass on his snout.  We initially had no idea what happened to him - possibly a hit and run or a tumor. His jaw was also infected. He looked like he had been like this for a while and was very weak.

We sent him to Animal Wellness for x-rays to determine the cause of the lump which turned out to be a huge tumor that had eaten away his nasal cavity and infiltrated his upper jaw and part of his forehead.

Rocky

Rocky

Chemotherapy was not an option and his only chance for survival was to remove his whole
upper jaw and snout and part of the skull in his forehead. There was no way we could allow him to suffer in this way, so we made the extremely difficult and heartbreaking decision to let him go painlessly and surrounded by love.

He passed at 4:20pm on Tuesday 19 Janaury. It was honestly truly heartbreaking - we were just too late. We are so so sorry for what you had to endure.  Thank you to Malou at PAWSsion Project for sharing our posts about Rocky and to all your supporters who sent in donations.  Thank you to all our DAS supporters who donated to his treatment costs.
We will use the remainder of the funds to rescue another poor soul.

Blanca

Blanca

Blanca passed away in the early hours of Sunday 12 December 2021.
Since her rescue in 2019, she had been suffering from Mast cell tumors which we had been treating via surgical removal. However it got to the point where they were recurring so quickly, surgery was no longer viable.

We finally managed to source Vinblastin - the only chemo drug available to treat it and we had already given her two sessions.  The tumors were shrinking significantly but her body clearly gave out - or her spirit did.  We are so saddened by this - she was a sweet, gentle but very shy girl.

Run free - pain free - Blanca. You will be greatly missed and we are so so sorry we were too late finding the chemo.  Read more about Blanca's life before and after rescue on her Profile Page.

Marta

Marta

After surviving so much, and having such a strong heart throughout, Marta caught a tick-borne disease called Erlichia.  It can be fatal in healthy dogs unless identified quickly, but to animals with immune systems under stress, like Marta, it is often too much.

On 4 December, some weeks after her successful amputation, she suddenly stopped eating, and became lethargic.  Despite this, we were hopeful as her spirit was undimmed - she still managed a little tail-waggle when she saw the staff.  She passed way quickly, just a couple of days later.  She knew love and companionship at the end.

Thank you to her sponsor also called Marta, who was sending messages of love every day and to everyone who sent her well wishes.  Rest in peace little one, you were very, very loved. Read more about Marta's life before and after rescue on her Profile Page.
