Wolfie

Wolfie

Wolfie didn't make it.

He passed away at 7:48 am on 19 January 2024.

We are heartbroken. He was the sweetest boy.

For those who don't know his story- Wolfie was a husky reported wandering the streets in a very weakened state.

Wolfie

Wolfie

We took him in and found through testing that he had two tick borne diseases - anaplasma and ehrlichiosis, which left untreated can be fatal. These diseases affect multiple organs / systems, especially the spleen and red blood cell production.

Wolfie's red blood cell count was critically low - so we put him on medication to boost the production.

Sadly, because his spleen was so badly affected, re-generation of blood cells was not happening. The only option was to remove his spleen - a last resort.

But to do the surgery, he needed a higher red blood cell count so we were preparing to do a blood transfusion this morning followed by a splenectomy.

He was active until Wednesday morning, then suddenly deteriorated. He passed away this morning with the vet assistants by his side.

Wofie for sure had an owner. Huskies are expensive dogs here and are not generally strays. However, no one posted looking for Wolfie so we can only assume he was dumped because he was sick.

We loved you Wolfie - so much.

Dasky

Dasky

Dasky was a female, barely out of puppyhood, but was reported to us on 7 January 2024 by someone who had agreed to adopt her once she was well.  She was very thin, covered in ticks and dehydrated.  She was in a very bad way, and she passed away in her sleep, unable to turn the corner back to health despite our best efforts.  It's so sad, as she had a home to go to through our Adopt a Stray Programme.  We are sorry we couldn't help you Dasky.

Vito

Vito

Vito

Vito

We sadly had to put to sleep a dog we rescued after DAS Supporters Jon and Sue reported a hit and run in Valencia.  They called us and stayed with him until we arrived.  We called him Vito. We took him for x-rays at PetVet and were emotionally preparing to have to put him to sleep, but with a spinal dislocation our vets believed with intensive laser therapy and hydrotherapy, he had a good chance of healing.
Luckily, because of the generosity of you, our donors, we now have both these treatments at the Sanctuary.

Vito

Vito

He was an old dog, maybe around 9 or 10, and we are sure he had an owner as his teeth were in good condition, he's had good nutrition, indicated by a healthy red blood cell count, and no ticks, fleas or mange.  Perhaps this is another dog who fled due to fear of fireworks at the New Year.

Vito RIP

Vito RIP

We tried for a week with laser therapy on his fractured spine but there was no improvement. We would have tried for longer but his organs started shutting down and despite our best efforts he was crying in pain, and we couldn't let him suffer.
Somewhere out there is someone who we're sure loved and cared for him.  Somewhere out there is someone who ran him over and left him lying in agony on the side of the road.
Vito, may you run free, without pain.
Thank you to everyone who cared about him and sent in donations for his treatment.
We gave him a service to send him on his way with love.  RIP Vito.  You were loved and your life mattered.

Sienna

Sienna

Sienna

Sienna

We have some really sad news.
Sienna passed away yesterday. We rescued her from the street just a couple of days ago but we were just too late to save her. Her immune system was overwhelmed with infection, she had a lot of worms and was riddled with mange.

At least she didn't die alone. Alvin was with her at the time and tried to revive her but couldn't.
Sometimes all we can do is give these poor souls a safe, comfortable place to pass with dignity and without pain.

Run free little girl.

Lorna

Lorna

Lorna, female

Poor little Lorna, a lone puppy abandoned close to the Sanctuary on 18 October 2023 passed away on 21 November 2023.  Like all really young puppies, she needs the best start in life, otherwise complications due to malnutrition or disease can easily carry them off.  We are sorry Lorna you had such a short life, but hope you knew love and care from humans before you passed so quickly.
