Dog Update

Nikko

Nikko

Nikko

Nikko

Nikko's story is distressing, but by no means uncommon. We rescued him on 16 October 2024 - discarded like trash, walked by, ignored, until someone finally reported him at least.  He was named
Nikko after a supporter's beloved dog that passed.

We may never know what he went through to land him in this critical state, but xrays showed dislocations to both his front legs which was indicative of them being tied behind his back.

Eventually, he began to eat, and our hopes rose but on 30 October, he started struggling to breathe. We put him on oxygen therapy and bronchodilator medication, but he went into respiratory failure and passed away.
It really takes an emotional toll on us, looking after these sweet souls in such terrible states of neglect.
We watch them fight, we fight alongside them giving them absolutely everything they need.
Then we lose them.
Without you and your support, dogs like Nikko would never have had the chance to experience love and care.
Despite the difficulties, we will do it again and again and again, if it means a dog or cat does not have to die a lonely painful death on the streets.
Run Free Nikko.

Kirby

Kirby

We got a report on 13 October 2024 about a very old dog, who had 1 eye missing and half his front leg missing.  It was not a clean cut, so we think it was likely mangled in a car accident and got infected. The poor old soul already had maggots eating his flesh.
We just couldn't leave him. No one else was going to help him, although the person who reported him thankfully picked him up and kept him safe for the night until we could pick him up.
We called him Kirby.
His red blood cells are dangerously low, so we bought plasma and put him on epoetin, which boosts red blood cell production.
We thought he was turning a corner as he began to eat again, but just three days later he passed way.  We did our best to make his last few days comfortable.

Bandit RIP

Bandit was rescued on 17 October 2024, showing horrible burns down his back.  It's hard enough for adult dogs to survive these kinds of injuries.  Bandit was just too young to fight on and passed away within a day of us taking him in.  At least we made him comfortable and pain free for his final few hours.

Brit

Brit

Brit was bought to us in October 2024.  He had a large swelling on his side, but appeared to be making a slow recovery.  He has such a sweet nature.

Brit

Brit

Sadly, and without much warning, he began to go downhill a few weeks into his recovery.  Maybe he endured internal damage that evaded our tests and diagnosis.  we can never be sure what our rescues have been through by the time they get to us.  We are so sad we couldn't provide him with a happy future.

Brit RIP

Thank you to everyone who supported Brit during his short time with us.  You can read more about Brit on his profile page here.

Feebie

Feebie was abandoned close to the Sanctuary in October 2024, along with siblings Freya and Frannie.  We thought they were all ding well until the evening of 17 October, when Feebie became distressed and started to vomit blood. We tried everything to revive her, but to no avail.  She tested negative for everything we could think of, but sometimes something goes undetected, especially with young puppies abandoned so early in their lives.  We are sorry Feebie we couldn't save you.
