Rhoda

Rhoda

We're sorry to report that Rhoda didn't make it. Her injuries from the impact of the hit and run damaged her kidneys beyond repair. Doc Pierre tried so hard to save her.  Thanks also Kate and Paolo for picking her up from the middle of the road and bringing her here.
We are sorry Rhoda that you had to suffer so much.  You can read more about Rhoda's story on her
Profile Page.

Suzy Adopted!

Suzy Adopted!

Suzy was dropped off at the sanctuary 10 days ago as she was being attacked by other street dogs and the reporter just picked her up and brought her to the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary couldn't take her in at the time, so Steve and Mae fostered her. Not only are they great fosters, but it seems they adopt every dog they take in! Here's Steve bringing her back today for her first vaccination and second de-worming. Thanks so much Mae and Steve for what you do for not only DAS, but all the neighborhood street dogs that you feed and treat!

Gandalf and Louie Adopted!

Gandalf and Louie Adopted!

Patience is a virtue!  Gandalf was rescued by Kate and Paolo of ECE Consulting some months ago, and was placed at the Sanctuary to recover from severe mange and malnutrition (see Gandalf's Profile Page for his full story).

The lovely Michai was also lined up for a new home alongside him, but she fell victim to Pancreatitis due to her weakened state following her Distemper infection and died (see her story on her Remembrance Page).

Michai

Gandalf too had Distemper, but managed to fight it off, and now we are happy to report that LOUIE is joining him in his new home (you can read Louie's full story on his Profile Page).  Despite being run over several times, and having to have his right hind leg amputated, he remains the happiest of dogs, with a winning character, and will be an inseparable buddy to Gandalf in their new home together.

Louie

Our heartfelt thanks to Paolo and Kate for providing a new home for these two!

Nebula

Nebula

Named Nebula by the reporter who bought her in, she was in very poor shape, having suffered a hit-and-run by a motorcycle that severed her leg around the end of June 2021.  The reporter offered to raise funds for her, and adopt her when she was better.

The surgery was successful, and Nebula was scheduled to return to her new adopted home.  She was eating well, and responding positively as you can see in this video clip from 1 July 2021.

Sadly, just as she was recovering at the Sanctuary, she began showing signs of extreme aggressive behaviour.  Rapid temperament change like this is an indication of Rabies, as is a fear of water (Hydrophobia) which she quickly developed.

She tried to bite everyone who came near, chew at her cage, despite never showing signs of aggression before.  It was with a heavy heart we decided to put her to sleep on Monday 12 July 2021, as Rabies is always fatal for dogs, and is dangerous to humans.  It is such a shame she was so close to enjoying a loving home at last.

The Last Postcard from Shaun

The Last Postcard from Shaun on his Holidays

Dear All

After two weeks away, it's time to come home. Time enough left for a bit of chillin' by the pool for the last few hours before my transport arrives. It's been fun, but I have missed you all. My coat has got better, and my last trip to the doctors showed that my Anemia is slowly improving. I've been for quite log walks some days, and others I have just sat on the beach and chewed something. The one thing that hasn't got any better is this terrible twitching left over from Distemper. Maybe in time it will improve but it does IRRITATE me so much, it keeps me awake most nights. So be prepared, I may be A BIT GRUMPY when I get back!!

See you all soon,

Shaun x
