Ollie

Ollie

We have some extremely sad and very unexpected news to share.  Little Ollie died suddenly today, 17 October 2022.  We rescued him at 4 months old after he got hit by a car that left him lying on the side of the road. His leg was fractured too severely to heal so we had to wait for him to get a bit older to amputate his leg.
He was always SO happy and pleased to see us. He never let his disability get in the way of playing with the other dogs.  You can see his profile
here.

He had his amputation on Friday 14 October and the surgery went really well. Prior to surgery we did full blood tests which showed everything was normal and he was very healthy.  After the surgery he was lively, eating and had no diarrhoea or vomiting and no infection at the surgery site.
Then on Sunday evening he started to get lethargic and wouldn't eat his dinner so night staff monitored him closely.  The next morning we did blood tests which showed his kidney function had rapidly deteriorated - but this was strange as there were none of the obvious signs of kidney failure.

Ollie

We took him straight to Animal Wellness so that we could get him thoroughly tested but there was no vet available until the afternoon so we took him back to the Sanctuary.  On the drive back, Ollie had a seizure. We tried to do CPR in the van and all the way back Alvin did mouth to mouth resuscitation and chest compressions. We called Doc Pierre and he rushed to the Sanctuary to meet us.
We gave him first aid, oxygen, etc. but he never regained consciousness.  We have no idea exactly what happened - but it's likely that he had a reaction to the anaesthesia which shut down his organs. The deterioration was so rapid that we can't find anything else to explain it.  Ollie had an adopter waiting for him after he had healed from his surgery - he was so close to living his best life.  Ollie was such a special little boy.

Ollie

Ollie

It really is a tragedy that we couldn't have foreseen. Thank you to his sponsor Nanette, for all the love and care she sent his way over the last few months
We are so sorry that we lost you Ollie. At least we know the last 4 months at the Sanctuary were very happy times for you.  You were such a good boy and we loved you very much.  Here is a video of him playing with Shaun, to remind us that he had a happy, but short life

Robinsons Mall does it again!

Robinsons Mall Does It Again!

Sandy

What a wonderful day we had at Robinsons Mall with another adoption drive. Its making such a difference - 7 puppies / dogs adopted and 15,830php in cash donations plus dog biscuits and dog chews.
Thanks as always to Estella for organizing the drive and for working relentlessly with Richard, Dex, Gemma and Alvin all day trying to get good homes for the dogs.
Thanks to everyone who came out to support us, to donate and of course to adopt.
You are helping us to make a huge difference here.

Anaya

Anaya was adopted by friends of Estella.  She was rescued after a hit-and-run left her with a broken leg, unable to move to safety.  She's the softest dog, and well-deserves her new home.  Read more about her story here.

Hazel, Haley, Hattie, Sandy and DeeDee are all young puppies who have all been abandoned and rescued by us over the last month or so.

Rescued in September 2022 after a report of a hit and run, we were fearful little Vinny wouldn't pull through. It seems like he has different ideas, and we are happy to be proved wrong as he is now with a loving family!  You can read about his life so far on his profile page here.

Vee

Vee (aka Harvey)

Vee's story is bitter-sweet.  A victim of a hit-and-run around the beginning of October 2022, Vee had fallen into a canal by the road. A 16-year old by named Jermane had been asking around for help to get it out but no one would help. He had been feeding the dog for the last few days and reporting to us - we were really hoping someone would help as it is hours away from us, and we have so many to look out for in our immediate area.

Harvey's rescuer Jermane

It was heart-warming to see so many people step forward to help, particularly Jermane Andrew who stayed with the dog for five days, talking to him, feeding him and giving him water and to Olga Uy for making the whole rescue happen.

It literally took the whole village to get Harvey to us.  Joelito and June Vida Baco volunteered to bring Harvey back to the Sanctuary and paid someone small enough to crawl into the culvert to get Harvey out. Michelle Marie Bolongaita and Evimei Acas-Reyes also responded immediately and helped by forwarding Olga Uy's messages to the barangay officials of Palaslan, Tayasan, led by Brgy. Capt. Engelbert Torres and assisted by Kagawad Jose Je Alvarico, Tanod Gember Ceriaco, Ranie Tabanao, and Alan Gamboa. Joelito's young nephew, Idol Baco, helped by alerting Tayasan MDRRMO and exerting efforts to reach Jermane during that time when he couldn't be contacted. We are so grateful for everyone's help.

Jermane had named the dog Harvey, but once at the Sanctuary, we discovered he was a she, so shortened her name to Vee.  It was 7.30pm before she arrived, and we made her as comfortable as possible until the morning when she could be transferred to Animal Wellness to get x-rays and more detailed assessment.

It was the worst news possible.  With two complete spinal fractures with extensive nerve damage, so she had no prospect of ever being able to pass waste on her own.

There is no treatment for this so we had to make the decision to put her to sleep.  We notified everyone who was involved in her rescue and spoken to Jermane who was devastated.  At the very least, she wasn't left to die a slow painful death alone. If we can't save them, at least we can free them from suffering.  RIP Vee - people cared.

Trixie Adopted!

Trixie Adopted!

Trixie got adopted last week and has settled in perfectly with her new family! When we rescued Trixie in August 2021 she was badly malnourished, had mange, and could no longer walk. Luckily she fully recovered, and transformed into the friendliest little girl with the most gorgeous smile! Thank you Mickael for welcoming Trixie into your family. We will miss her so very much, but we wish you all the happiness in the world together. We love you Trixie ❤️

You can read all about Trixie on her profile page here.

Marvin finds a home!

Marvin Finds a Home!

Marvin adopted

We are so happy to announce that the last of the 5 puppies found in a bucket, Marvin, has been adopted by Raymart, one of our Sanctuary Vet Assistants, so we know he will have a good life.

Monty, Mona, Miggy and Minky had already embarked on their new adventures, after being rescued only a few short weeks ago, covered with ticks and fleas.

Finally Joey is on his way to a new home with Miggy as playmate.  Joey was a mange-ridden, undernourished hit-and-run victim in late July, and has truly been transformed into a happy, loving boy.  Read his story on his profile page here.  Good luck to all four of them!
