Creamy Update March 2021

Creamy is doing well - here's a picture of him just after he had a bath and rolled in the dirt!

We did find a lump on his belly near his back leg. We think it was an insect bite or he had a little squabble with another dog. He is generally mild mannered but he sits by the biscuit bowl and guards it for himself!

We put out large bowls of biscuits around the shelter in the morning and then give them individual meals at night.  He still spends his time outside the caretakers room under the table.
We are aware of someone who wants to adopt two senior dogs or two dogs no one else will take so that he can give them more attention, and Creamy is a possible candidate providing he doesn't take a dislike to the gentlemen considering adoption - maybe he was hurt in the past by a man - he never liked Doc Riv and would always bark at him!  Here's a short video of Creamy this month.

Nate Update March 2021

Nate is like a lot of the very old street dogs that we rescue - they take months to become socialised and mix with the rest of the dogs - it took me 6 months before we could touch Nismo - Bruce was the same

We let Nate out of quarantine about 10 days ago and he went and hid in one of the bamboo kennels. We have volunteers trying to slowly socialise him but he is having none of it.

Another problem with the older dogs is that they desperately try to escape for a while. They sometimes chew holes in the wire - we have reinforced most of the fence but we just don't have the money to do all of it just yet so we keep patching it up.

Nate got out and is hanging around the shelter - which at least is good news as hopefully when he is hungry we will be able to catch him.
He has been neutered and vaccinated now and is in generally good health as he has had Nexgard so all the parasites will be gone.  His hair is slow to grow back as is the case with a lot of older dogs.  We will keep a careful watch for him, but he is certainly in better condition and has brighter prospects than before he was rescued.

Jewel Update March 2021

Jewel is much better now and is off her antibiotics. The only thing we have her on now is Immunol. She is still very afraid of coming into the general population as Daisy keeps picking on her - Daisy is actually quite a bully to be honest - the sooner we get her adopted the better!

Two days ago she was actually outside playing with the other dogs so perhaps some of her isolation in the last month was because of Erlichia.
We had a recent blood test done and her platelets were back to normal.  Here's a short video clip of her taken last week.

Cardo Update March 2021

Cardo has had a good month without any illness or injuries - he is eating well and has been active.
For some reason this month he has started to become more playful. He normally only comes to Christine and ignores most of the other staff but these past few weeks Rudylyn and Rina said he has started to also be playful with them.

He is still not leash trained so we are slowly starting to work on all the dogs. Our volunteers have switched from cleaning to dog walking so we are now working on getting all the dogs leash trained.
Cardo is such a strong character and very independent but hopefully he will respond well.

Ace Update March 2021

Ace has been out doing some lead (leash) training with some of our volunteers.  Being a young dog, he is at the perfect age to get him used to a collar and lead.  We sometimes use an expanding lead to allow dogs room to explore and exercise, but this lead still allows some close control for walking to heel.

A pocket full of snacks and treats also helps!
