BROWNIE

Brownie

Brownie was a stray who was beaten by a security guard while she was pregnant. The Sanctuary was not ready for dogs at the time so she was fostered until she gave birth, when she and her five puppies were brought to the Sanctuary in June 2019.

She is a very affectionate and relaxed dog, spending much of her time asleep in front of the Sanctuary.

Brownie's Story

Brownie was a stray who was beaten by a security guard while she was pregnant.   A foster was found to see her through the birth of five puppies.  Sadly two died of Parvo, but two were adopted, with just Betty remaining at the Sanctuary.

Brownie when rescued

She was actually adopted twice but returned through no fault of her own – her adopters did not have to patience to let her adjust to her new home.
For this reason, we are now very careful with who she goes to as it is traumatic for a dog to keep being rehomed.

Brownie

Brownie used to spend a lot of time outside the Sanctuary as she would jump out in the morning and then jump in again at night.

For a while she was bullied so that’s likely the reason she kept jumping out.
Now the other dogs tend to leave her alone.

Brownie is such a lovely dog – she loves human touch and attention but is a little wary of strangers. She can climb trees and fences easily and as a result we have had to raise and modify the shelter fence to stop her getting out.

Dog in a HolePerfectly camouflaged, Brownie relaxes in her hole dug out at the base of the big tree just outside the Sanctuary.  She’d just come back from a walk with the other (younger) dogs and had an attack of “the zoomies” aka running round in circles chasing her tail.  Blink and you’d miss her Click to see post….

Jonathan’s TribeAs well as great physical and mental exercise (for the walkers too!), taking dogs out on the lead outside the Sanctuary gets our rescues better prepared for that new life when they get adopted. Some dogs don’t need leads, and walk with us wherever we go. This is Jonathan’s tribe – every Wednesday he Click to see post….
