ZIGGY

ZIGGY

Ziggy was rescued in August 2020.  His owner had no intention of looking after him, and he was in a terrible state.

After treating countless infectious wounds and his severe Mange, he has made a welcome recovery.

He is an affectionate boy, and gets on with a few other dogs around the caretaker's house, where he likes to hang out.

Ziggy's Story

We rescued Ziggy on 1 August 2020.  He actually had an owner, who was not short of money – he just didn’t care about Ziggy. One of our volunteers saw Ziggy sitting outside the house and confronted the owner.

Ziggy before rescue

He said that Ziggy had eaten seafood and that was why he was like he was.

Ziggy's treatment for infected wounds

We gave him the usual mange treatment NexGard and in around 10 days he looked like this.  At the time, we think Ziggy was quite young, around 2-3 years old so he recovered quickly.  He still has recurring skin issues, probably because mange mites really affect the dogs immune system. He is also quite sensitive to touch.

Ziggy

Clearly he had been like that for months – getting worse and worse. Maggots were actually eating him alive.  Ziggy was weak and malnourished so we kept him in quarantine for a while and treated him with vitamin B supplements to help his nervous system.  He was really quite aggressive at first, we couldn’t get near him so had to sedate him to get most of the maggots out.

Ziggy one week after his NexGard anti-mange treatment

Now he is really friendly. He still doesn’t like Andrew, who came in the same time as Ziggy. They get into fights from time to time. Here are a couple of video clips of Ziggy before and after his rehabilitation.

Ziggy Update March 2021

March 24, 2021

Ziggy has had a pretty good moth healthwise and his skin seems to be getting better. For months after we brought him in he was still sensitive to touch and he is one of the few dogs we give Nexgard to regularly.  Perhaps when a dog has such a bad case of mange as Ziggy Click to see post….
