In May 2024, six puppies were abandoned heartlessly near the Sanctuary.  We were able to find homes fairly quickly for Gage, Gail and Greg, but then with the distemper outbreak and mystery illness through August and September, Gwen and her sisters Gill and Gia were left behind.

Gwen's Story

On 28 May 2024, we discovered six puppies abandoned close to the Sanctuary.  It's illegal, but preventing or discouraging this practice is a never-ending struggle.  Greg, Gage and Gail all found new homes fairly quickly, but Gwen and her sisters,  Gill and Gia were less fortunate.

Sadly for the three of them, their early months coincided with another outbreak of Distemper in the Sanctuary, and so they missed their window when most of our dogs are adopted - early puppyhood. This is such a shame, and a pressing problem for us, as the months slip by they become less attractive to most potential adopters. There's no real logic behind this - after all, the character and nature of a young dog becomes apparent as they approach adulthood, so a potential adopter has a much clearer idea the temperament of their new family member.

Gwen is probably the most friendly and out-going of the three remaining sisters, and we hope it surely can't be much longer before she finds a home of her own.
