HONEY

Honey

Rescued on 17 June 2022, Honey had a huge mass  on the side of her face.  The vets believed it was operable, and through the generosity of so many donors, she underwent surgery on 30 June 2022, and we hope will make a full recovery.

Honey's Story

Rescued on 17 June 2022, Honey's huge mass on the side of her head was truly sickening.  Both Doc Pierre and Doc Gama at Animal Wellness agree that she was NOT a candidate for euthanasia and she had a chance at recovery, but we couldn't be certain whether the mass was cancerous until after surgery.

Her initial blood tests showed normal organ functioning but she was anaemic. She also tested positive for heartworm, so we put her on anti-inflammatory medication for 2 weeks and also got to work on raising her red blood cell count.

Honey's surgery was really complex because her tumour was so close to her brain and had also stretched out her ear drum.  After mass was removed, she was left with a drooping eye, and sadly only one ear. It is still early days, and we wait for the results of the biopsy to see if chemo treatment is needed. Fingers crossed she doesn't need too much further treatment.

Honey Adopted!

Honey

Honey

Despite our current financial challenges, lots of good things are happening. We've had a number of adult adoptions over the last couple of weeks.
The latest is Honey!! Olga, Noel and Abby decided they had room for another senior and took Honey into their lovely home.
She has joined Elsie, Lola, Nana and Teo at what we are now calling, the DAS retirement home!

Honey was a stray and was reported with a huge tumor on the side of her head, she also had tumors on her abdomen.  It was strongly suggested that we put her to sleep but if there is any hope of quality of life, we never give up. We were so grateful that Doc Gama of Animal Wellness believed she could survive and thrive so we did surgery to remove the tumor. Unfortunately she lost one of her ears.
Very soon after the surgery she started bleeding from her uterus due to tumors and had to undergo emergency surgery and a blood transfusion. But she made it and is now cancer free!
She is such a survivor and will now live out her days with a family that loves her dearly - not that we didn't love her dearly - we were so sad to see her go but the Sanctuary is now getting over-crowded so we know she will be happier - she has settled in already.

We can only make dreams like this come true with your continued support - thank you for what you do for our rescues.
You can find out more about Honey on her profile page here..
