Wyn – Adopt a Stray

Wyn

On 22 March 2024, under our "Adopt a Stray" programme, we took in a soft-eyed young boy with an infected wound on his neck caused by a temporary leash of some kind.  It's anyone's guess why he had this tied so tightly around him.  We called him Wyn.

He was part of a pack being fed comfortably in the community, so when he is well enough, he will return to the pack he knows and grew up with.

Finding adopters for all our dogs is a never-ending task, so when a rescued dog without an owner comes from a community that looks out for their strays, often the kindest thing is to return them rather than keep them indefinitely.

Sadly, this story doesn't have a happy ending.  On 23 April 2024 we lost Wyn to Distemper. He was the first dog to show symptoms and we believe the one carrying the virus when we rescued him.
We do test all rescues for Distemper but it can incubate in a dog's system for up to a month. Wyn had already done his 14 days quarantine and was 2 weeks in the general population when symptoms began to show.
After his shots of Can glob-d he seemed to really improve but he suddenly started having trouble breathing and died from respiratory failure.
It's such an unpredictable disease.
We have given all vulnerable dogs antibodies and all other meds needed to help boost their immune systems. Two further puppies, Bett and Bram, also succumbed.
We are so sorry we couldn't save you Wyn.  Run free.
