Blue
Many of the dogs we rescued in the early days of DAS are now approaching old age, like Blue. We rescued her from another shelter in July 2019 when they could no longer adequately care for the dogs they had there. She was already around 7 or 8 years old when we brought her in, so she was around 13 when she died.
She was such a beautiful girl.
She would sit in front of you to get some pets and gently touch your face with her paw. It saddens us that she never got her own family, though for her, we were her family. Throughout the years, Blue got quite plump, so along with a few other heavy weights, she took part in “The Biggest Loser” Weight Loss Challenge, coming in second with 2% weight loss after 4 weeks!
We even took her to the ocean regularly to get her more exercise, which she absolutely adored.
We believe she died of a cardiac arrest as she suddenly had trouble breathing. Staff put her on oxygen immediately, but she suddenly stopped breathing around 10 minutes later. We can’t wait to get the new shelter up and running so dogs like Blue can be much more comfortable in their old age. Senior dogs like her need much more comfort than we can give them at the current Shelter.
Run free Blue, you were so very loved. The Shelter won’t be the same without you.
