Jonathan’s Tribe

Jonathan's Tribe

As well as great physical and mental exercise (for the walkers too!), taking dogs out on the lead outside the Sanctuary gets our rescues better prepared for that new life when they get adopted. Some dogs don't need leads, and walk with us wherever we go. This is Jonathan's tribe - every Wednesday he completes 5 or 6 walks in the company of TinTin, Phoenix and Bella. They bound ahead and clear the way while Jonathan and the lead-bound dog follow on behind. It's just possible that they are the best exercised dogs in the Province, as they are there on EVERY walk!

Here are some of today's walked dogs out having fun in the woods behind the Sanctuary.   If you are local, and can COMMIT to a regular time slot each week for months on end, then get in touch with us to see about becoming a DAS Volunteer.

Ace Update March 2021

Ace has been out doing some lead (leash) training with some of our volunteers.  Being a young dog, he is at the perfect age to get him used to a collar and lead.  We sometimes use an expanding lead to allow dogs room to explore and exercise, but this lead still allows some close control for walking to heel.

A pocket full of snacks and treats also helps!
