In October 2024, we picked up an adult dog in Bacong who could barely stand - full of mange and on the point of death. We called him Maurice, and hoped to return him to health and possibly put him back into his community, but it was kinder for some dogs that have extended rehabilitations at the Sanctuary to hold on to them in the hope of them finding new homes.

Maurice's Story
On 4 October 2024, we took in an older dog with a bad case of mange, and almost dead through starvation. It's a miracle he was still standing.
Over time, and with medication, he threw off his Mange infection, and put on some weight.
Maurice when rescued
As we were preparing to put him back into his community, the Sanctuary was hit yet again with Distemper, preventing us from rehoming any dogs. The Distemper outbreak began to subside in early 2025, but by that time, Maurice had grown accustomed to his surroundings at the Sanctuary, and to return him to a life on the streets after he had experienced such a prolonged stay with us would have been a risk we were unwilling to take.

He's such a lovely boy now, we hope we will be able to find him a new home off the streets.
