Mario's Story
On 7 May 2024, despite there not being the possibility of bringing dogs into the Sanctuary because of the ongoing Distemper outbreak, we couldn't leave this kind old dog to suffer. He had a giant wound on his back we believe was caused by a cyst that burst and became infected. The infection has taken such a hold on him, his spine could clearly be seen.
We also considered the possibility of a tumour but there were no signs of tumours any where else in his body. After stabilising him with ID and meds, and feeding him up, we decided the best course of action was surgery to debride the wound and close the remaining skin over the site.
He's now made a complete recovery, and has joined the ranks of the older generation of dogs at the Sanctuary. We'd love to see him settle into a new home to enjoy his twilight years.
