Alfred's Story
On 21 March 2024, we rescued a old dog with severe mange and malnutrition. He would not have lasted much longer.
One night, Rina was visiting someone at ACE Hospital and she saw him limping up the ramp to the main hospital entrance. It was as if he was presenting himself for help! She immediately picked him up and brought him to the Sanctuary.
He looked very much like Buffy, who we rescued a few days earlier. This is what life on the streets with mange looks like. We called this old boy Alfred.
His leg was not broken but he had a wound so deep you could see the bone. We did blood tests and he tested positive for Ehrlichia and had the usual blood profile of a dog that was starving - low red blood cells. He slowly made his way back to health, and we were overjoyed when an adopter came forward and asked for him.
His fur was still growing back, and he needed more than the average number of baths to help clean his skin and promote hair growth. He was still pretty skinny as well, but the adopters were keen to take on the challenge. Sadly for Alfred, the adopters' existing pack of dogs did not accept him, and his care regime proved too much for them, so we bought him back to the Sanctuary for proper care. We are confident the right family is out there, ready to give him the last home of his long life. He doesn't need much - a quiet place to rest, some gentle caresses, a short daily walk in the long grass and tasty food bowl. Can you make Alfred's remaining time comfortable, and filled with care and love?
