In November 2023, we received reports of a dog being neglected.  We do not have the space and resources to help every dog in such a position, but in this case, the owner was persuaded to let her go, and the reporter organised a temporary foster home.  We can help with giving such rescued dogs medical attention, but Renee will still need a permanent home.

Renee

Renee's Story

On 27 August 2023, we agreed to help return a neglected dog to health, with the assistance of the reporter who persuaded the owner to release her and organise a temporary foster home once she is well enough. We changed her name to Renee, meaning rebirth and renewal.

Lately, because our Sanctuary is full, we have been asking the community to step up, and they have. More and more people are offering to adopt strays directly from the street after treatment (see our Adopt a Stray programme) , and more people are looking after abandoned puppies and kittens and finding home themselves.
We need more of this to happen. There is indeed abuse and neglect here but it is no worse than in many other countries, and as in other countries, the majority of people DO care.

In cases of neglect, it's very difficult to get anything done as owners resist and people don't want to go through the process of filing cases as there is often a backlash. We do not have the resources to be filing multiple cases at this stage. We are too small an organisation.

We asked the reporter of the dog to do what he could and he persuaded the owner to surrender the dog and found someone to foster.
This is what we need more of in the community, people coming together to fight for the abused and neglected animals. We cannot do it alone.

We will take in dogs and treat for free if they are guaranteed a good home afterwards.  We see this as a positive change, owners not resisting and reporters doing the work.  This poor girl is now clean, her matted hair shaved, she's bathed and is safe, comfortable and well fed. But she has such a sad defeated look about her, understandably so.
We ideally would like her to go directly to a new home as going to foster and being rehomed again is not ideal.  Please consider adopting her!
At least it's one more dog saved from a life of misery.
