Cersei's Story
On 22 March 2024, we had a report of an otherwise healthy-looking animal sheltering in a construction site of a new house being built. We are still not sure whether she was a dog that had escaped and is lost or if indeed she was dumped by her owners.
She was very wary - the workers in the site said a lot of people had been trying to catch her.
We gave her all the usual tests and also vaccinated and sterilised before adoption so she can't be used for breeding - no doubt there will be many people who want to adopt her given her breed but we will screen adopters to ensure that she doesn't end up in a cage. This is the fate of many pedigree dogs that have a breed. Please understand caging a dog is cruel. There is no other way to say it. Many of these dogs in cages are working breeds with high energy. Caging is torture. We will review applications when Cersei is fully recovered.
In preparing her for her sterilisation, Doc Erica found something very unusual. One ovary was fused with the small intestine and the other was fused with the large intestine. We removed her uterus but left her ovaries intact. To remove them would require taking a section of the intestine out. The complications of that are not worth it. Cersei will never be able to get pregnant but she might still give off heat hormones that attract male dogs. Something tells us she'll be able to handle the unwanted attention - Cersei is a live wire!! Very energetic and needs lots of exercise. She's super friendly!
