SKIPPY

Skippy

In June 2023, one of our vet assistants Angel found a dog with severe TVT around Ace Hospital in Dumaguete.  The risk of leaving him untreated outweighed the risk from Distemper at the Sanctuary currently, so we bought him in, and called him Skippy.

Skippy's Story

On 17 June 2023, one of our vet assistants Angel found a dog with a large number of TVT tumors.  For those who are not familiar with this, it's a contagious venereal cancer spread through sex and also contact with infected body parts.
However it is totally treatable with chemo so we wanted to give this poor boy a chance.

Skippy has a big tumor on his penis, in other parts of his body and in his eyes.
Longer term followers will have seen our success with severe cases before.
No doubt people will say to put him to sleep but he stands a really good chance of survival and full recovery, so we will give him that. As I'm sure anyone would give to loved ones who are suffering with a potentially curable disease.

It may seem a reasonable question to ask why we would try to treat such an old dog, but we believe every dog has the right to a level of care, compassion and a chance to live the natural span of their years, no matter how long or short.

He will need around 8 sessions of chemo over next 2 months so.
