NORMAN

Norman

Norman was rescued in February 2021, along with Nate, who were strays being fed by one of our foster carers.

He had a severe case of Mange, which being an old dog, will take some time for him to recover from.

He is probably 12 - 13 years old.

Norman's Story

Norman was a stray that was being fed by one of our volunteers Mike. We took him in as we were really worried about Norman as he was really already very thin with very bad Mange.

Norman

He was given NexGard for his mange but being an old dog, it is likely to take him a lot longer to recover and grow back his hair.

He is very docile and not very responsive to us at the moment. He is not aggressive – just doesn’t seem particularly happy to see us!

Norman

He originally got on quite well with Jake but not Nate, but later became friends with Bruno and Archie. We thought they were buddies but maybe just came to Mike at the same time for food!  We gave him a good bath and he was ok with it- he didn’t like it but he didn’t try to bite!

Norman

We have some very sad news to share - Norman passed away last night in his sleep from kidney failure. He was comfortable until the end and had staff with him 24 / 7 over the last week.  Carl, Arjun and Raymond were there in the office with him, Carl said he simply stopped breathing while he was sleeping.

Norman

We rescued Norman in February 2021. He was an old street dog known to locals in the area - they reckoned he was around 13 years old. He probably did have an owner a long time ago - you can check out his profile page here.
He was one of the first dogs to be sponsored when we started our sponsorship programme - thank you to his sponsor Chris who also named him and has looked out for him over the last 18 months sending him gifts, love and extra money for his food and medications.

He was a sweet old soul - one of the elder gentlemen of the Sanctuary along with buddies Archie (now adopted) and Bruno.  He will be missed but we are glad he had a comfortable life in his final years.

When a dog passes, we have a little service for them and tell them our favourite memories of them and how much we love them.  We don't usually post this as it is just for us staff to help us process the deaths and help their little souls on their way, but we wanted to share this picture of Norman with Rachel, saying her goodbyes.  As many of you know, it's so hard to lose a pet and we have to deal with multiple losses.

Norman Update March 2021

March 21, 2021

0

Norman was neutered this month and let out into the general population. He stayed away from everyone initially but after a week or so he started mixing with a few of the other dogs.  These old street dogs that we bring in take a long time to be socialised as they are so wary if not fearful of people.

Norman likes Rudylyn, our vet assistant and she can pick him up and stroke him - but for now, he won't let anyone near him.
We just need one person to work with him for a month or two and then he is likely to be much more sociable with people in general.

His neuter went well but then a couple of days after his surgery, he developed an infection in his surgical wound on his testicle and so we had to put him back in quarantine to administer treatment in the form of antibiotics.

His hair is starting to grow back - here is Rudylyn giving him his antibiotic tablet. Hopefully next month he will be more sociable
