Esme

Rescued by Fe and Jammy, two prolific stray dog feeders, on 22 July 2022, Esme had a bad, but treatable form of TVT.  The generosity of donors has meant that we can begin her treatment and rehabilitation.

Esme's Story

Jammy and Fe are a couple from Dumaguete who regularly feed and help bring back to health countless stray dogs in the city.  They managed to raise 8,500 pesos, and we collected donations of a further 15,500 pesos which meant we could begin her treatment for TVT - Transmissible Veneral Tumors.

We will be starting chemo once her blood results are satisfactory - as with pretty much all strays, she has a low red blood cell count.

Esme will need around 6 sessions of Chemo to treat the cancer - this kind of TVT is very easy to treat but each session of chemo costs 2500 pesos ( around 50 USD) plus she will need regular full blood panel tests (at least 3 at 2000 per test) to ensure her kidneys and liver are holding up to the chemo.
Her treatment costs will be around 25,000 in total including deworming, vaccination and spay.

Esme

We have some really sad news to report - Esme passed away in the early morning of Friday 29 July 2022.  She had one chemo session and seemed ok for a few days after that but then she went downhill rapidly. Her red blood cell count dropped rapidly and we suspected leptospirosis as she started to turn yellow.
We booked her into Animal Wellness for further tests but she passed away surrounded by the night staff who stay with critical cases all night monitoring their vital signs.

She stopped breathing and despite oxygen administration and resuscitation attempts, she passed away.  Thank you to everyone who donated for her care, sent her well-wishes and prayed for her.
You can check out her full story on her profile page
