On 29 July 2022, we received reports of a stray in Batinguel, Dumaguete, that had been fine until recently, but has clearly been attacked with a knife. We managed to raise funds for his treatment and bought him in. It's a sad story as he was once a well-cared for dog. We called him Arthur.

Arthur's Story
On 29 July 2022, Arthur was reported to us wandering his neighbourhood with a large gash caused by a knife or blade of some sort - it was too clean a cut to be anything else. The reporter said that it had an owner who died in 2019 and the dog has been wandering around ever since, being fed by kind locals. It is beyond belief why someone would do such a thing. Like most countries, animal cruelty like this is illegal, but is very rarely prosecuted.
Our staff stayed at the Sanctuary late into the night, tending to Arthur's wound.

Wound healed well and Arthur now a contented dog, getting fatter every day, as he loves his food!

It is with tremendous sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arthur.
We rescued Arthur 2.5 years ago after he was ruthlessly hacked by someone. He was seen wandering around with a huge gash in his side.
People in the area who fed him said he once had an owner who died, and then Arthur was left to fend for himself. You can read more about Arthur on his profile page here.
He must have been loved by his owner as he had the sweetest disposition. He wasn't too bothered about playing with other dogs, but he loved people.
He would have made a great companion had someone chosen him for adoption, but he was always overlooked.
At least he knew love at the Sanctuary.

His death was sudden and unexpected. Rudylyn was doing her daily dog health check and noticed Arthur wasn't getting up to greet her as he usually did, so she took him immediately to the vet for a check.
While on the table, he suddenly collapsed and stopped breathing. Despite numerous resuscitation attempts, we couldn't revive him.
It was very likely a cardiac arrest given his advanced age.
