In July 2023, we took in dog lying in a field unable to move. She tested positive for Distemper, but we wanted to give her a chance to fight. And she did! We called her Thandi.

Thandi's Story
On 15 July 2023, a dog was reported to us lying in a field, unable to move. Despite being so over capacity, and in the middle of a funding crisis, we couldn't leave her to die in the sun. She tested positive for distemper but we thought she must be in the late stages when dogs enter neurological phase and usually they don't recover.

We didn't want to give up on her and kept doing therapy on her legs and taking her outside. We also had to keep turning her so she didn't develop bed sores.
After 5 weeks there was still no improvement and we had to consider euthanasia.
Then a few days later she started to sit up and eventually regained full mobility! She loves being taken out into the fields in front of the Sanctuary and feeling the sun on her face! We hope she will continue to grow in confidence, and that a loving home will complete her recovery to a full and happy life.
