OLIVIA

Olivia

Olivia was reported to us in October 2022, lying in a creek, very weak and very, very thin. We brought her into the Sanctuary and named her Olivia, in honour of little Ollie who had passed away suddenly only the previous week.

Olivia's Story

Olivia was rescued from a creek, barely able to move, and clearly starving to death on 19 October 2022. It was not far from the Sanctuary so we went to assess the situation. At the time, as always, we were struggling to keep afloat financially with the growing number of rescues, and not enough adoptions taking place, so we were very humbled to find that people still donated, sometimes small amounts, to cover the cost of Olivia's rescue.

She tested positive for Heartworm which is a lengthy and costly treatment. She had low platelets and a low redblood cell count and high white blood cell count.  She was extremely scared when we rescued her but slowly started to settle in. She began her 14 days isolation to ensure she is rabies free, and initially things looked good.

She began to eat, and respond to us, and Nanette, Ollie's sponsor, kindly transferred her monthly sponsorhip to Olivia - thank you so much Nanette!

We had started the first phase of the heartworm treatment (doxycycline antibiotics) when she stopped eating.

The prognosis from Doc Gama at Animal Wellness suggested the Heartworm was much more advanced than we feared, so we transferred her to Animal Wellness for further treatment and observation.

Amazingly, she rallied and fought off her illness, and made a full and miraculous recovery.  She is such a gentle and loving soul, it's a mystery how she hasn't been snapped up by a lucky adopter by now.  Could it be you?
