Jewel

Jewel was an abandoned dog we rescued in March 2020.

Her collar had become embedded in her neck and her flesh was rotting.

She is very shy, and we worked with her to bring her out of her shell a little.  She is a very sweet dog.

Jewel's Story

Locals in the area said at one point Jewel had an owner who left and abandoned her. She hung around the streets for a while then disappeared for four months then arrived back with the collar on – already showing signs of tissue damage.

She took her time to get used to people. She was impossible to catch for her vaccinations but we persisted and finally got her fully vaccinated.

Jewel

She was a very submissive dog, a situation that has only got worse as the Sanctuary population has increased.

She also contracted Erlichia – a tick-borne disease - which required 2 weeks of Doxycycline to eradicate.

She has a very sweet nature, and loves being stroked if she trusts the person.

In October 2024 we took the decision to move her to the Vet's House, a small property the Sanctuary rents for the visiting vets volunteering in the clinic.  It's a quiet environment, with only a handful of dogs benefiting from being away from the noise and chaos of 200+ dogs at the Sanctuary. She has settle in well, but we haven't given up hope there's a gentle human out there looking for a Jewel in their life.

Jewel is much better now and is off her antibiotics. The only thing we have her on now is Immunol. She is still very afraid of coming into the general population as Daisy keeps picking on her – Daisy is actually quite a bully to be honest – the sooner we get her adopted the Click to see post….
