ELF

Elf

In October 2023, one of our loyal supporters, Richard, found a desperately starved dog, and due to an adoption, we had space to bring him in.  He is so young, and wore a collar, so was clearly abandoned.  Some good food and plenty of love set him right.  We called him Elf.

Elf's Story

On 21 October 2023, one of our most dedicated supporters, Richard, found a terribly weak dog wandering the streets where he was doing his daily stray feeding rounds.  We tested him for everything, distemper, parvo, giardia, ehrlichia, anaplasma, heartworm and ran a full blood panel.
Miraculously he was free from all tick borne diseases, but he clearly has bad mange.

His major organs, were ok but he has literally starved.
His red blood cell count was extremely low so he was severely anaemic.
The surprising thing is, he's only about 8 months old. His teeth were perfect. He also had a collar on so somebody owned him.

He probably had the best night sleep ever, with a full tummy of nutritious food, although he's not out of the woods yet by any means.  Worm infestation can cause irreparable damage, and the severe muscle atrophy may have damaged his heart.

His initial test costs, like all rescues, cost over 7,000 php, or around $130, before any medication, vaccinations, spay / neuter, daily food and supplements.  We need to repeat blood tests every few days to ensure recovery is ongoing - the
rescue is just day 1.  If you can help by donating food, funds or sponsoring a dog's regular care at the Sanctuary, you will be helping us directly improve the lives of these unfortunate, unwanted and discarded souls.  Please visit our
How Can I Help page for details,

Elf

He is such a loving and happy dog now, and is back to full health for a dog of his age and history of street life. We'd love for him to find a home - please message us if you have space in your life for an Elf!
