DORY

Dory

Dory was in a very poor state, almost unable to stand, when we rescued her in November 2022.

With just what we all need - food, love and a place to call home - she's now a healthy energetic dog full of life!

Dory

Dory's Story

We took Dory in on 22 November 2022, after reports of a very skinny, hairless dog barely moving.   She had lacerations on her back, which it is difficult to imagine happened by accident.  As well as being malnourished, she was almost completely hairless from a very bad case of Mange.

Mange is easily treatable, with a range of drugs, including Ivermectin which is readily available and extremely cheap, but we use Nexgard or Nexgard Spectra as this has the additional benefits of fighting off ticks, fleas, intestinal worms and some cases of heartworm.  Sadly, too many strays suffer from Mange, and their appearance, although easily remedied, is often interpreted by the public as something much worse, and they don't tend to intervene.

The solution of malnourishment is the right kind of restorative food, and plenty of it!  We feed all new rescues and puppies 3 times per day using Aozi organic canned food.  This is not cheap.  Some dogs like Bilbo need specialized food, which costs considerably more.  Click here to find out how you can help us feed all our inmates!

You can see for yourself the difference this level of care makes!  She has joined Mave on the roof of the Quarantine Building, and they patrol it together, making sure everyone knows they are there!
