AGNES

Agnes

In April 2024, one of our supporters Richard found this poor old girl on his stray feeding rounds.  She looked to be around 10 years old, had TVT cancer, a wound in her side and an infected broken front leg. We could not leave her exposed to the sun to die a lonely death.  We called her Agnes.

Agnes's Story

On 22 April 2024, Richard our volunteer found this poor old girl on his stray feeding rounds. He knew that we can't take in dogs at the moment because of the Distemper outbreak but couldn't just leave her.
Our rescue team were not available at the time so Christine, Robie and Richard stayed with her until we could get someone out to pick her up.

She looks to be around 10 years old. She has TVT cancer, a wound in her side and a broken front leg. She will need amputation soon as her fractured leg is infected.  Being an old street dog, she for sure would have come into contact with the Distemper virus before so we hope she has built up immunity.  The Sanctuary is a safer place for her than the streets right now.

One day she was hobbling in the scorching heat, looking for some respite. Now she's got her own little apartment, with air-con and 24 /7 room service!

She tested positive for Ehrlichia and Babesia, two parasites that can be fatal if not treated early enough. Blood tests showed her red blood cell count had dropped to critical levels so we put her on an aggressive regime of medication to boost her red blood cell production (this alone cost us P5,000/$100). Luckily it worked and her red blood cell count rose to satisfactory levels for a dog of her age and history.

When she was feeling a bit better, we took her for full body x-rays to check her spine, hind legs and internal organs. She had no fractures except for her front leg but does have scarring on her lungs. Life on the streets takes its toll. With donor's help, we hope to make her remaining time on Earth more comfortable, and full of love and care.
