FONZIE

Fonzie

In May 2024, we took in two dogs reported to us from an overseas worker worried that her family was neglecting her pets while she was gone.  She was sending money regularly, but the animals were clearly suffering.  Fonzie here was the one in dire condition. Starved is the only word for it. His buddy Fluffy was in a comparatively better condition.

Fonzie's Story

On 18 May 2024, we responded to a report from an overseas worker concerned that the payments she was sending to her relatives to care for her pets was not being spent on them.  This situation is all too common here. The owner of this dog went to work overseas as many people do as wages here are so low.

She left her two dogs in the care of her grandfather who sadly passed away about a year ago. After he died she paid relatives to care for her two dogs and actually sent Pedigree canned food directly to them.
The people she paid insisted that they fed the dogs but clearly they didn't. The owner initially contacted us to ask what vet she could send the dog to as she couldn't understand why it was so thin given she sent so much money and food.

It's astonishing the poor little guy had the strength to stand up.  He was just sinew, skin and bone, but has the biggest heart!  Despite his treatment, or lack of it, at human hands, he is soft, gentle and trusting.  His owner must be heartbroken, but at least Fluffy and Fonzie are now in our care.

Fonzie's transformation is one of the most dramatic we have seen at the Sanctuary - just look at him now!  Now they have been restored to their old selves, maybe a more caring, responsible family can step forward and give them another chance.
