Found wandering in the middle of the road, we suspected poor Ivy of suffering some kind of injury to her brain, as she is near-blind. She is young, so we hope she will heal in due course.

Ivy's Story

On 21 December 2021, we got a call to rescue a dog wandering in the middle of a busy highway, walking in circles and clearly not well.
We don't know if she was hit by a car or has something wrong with her systemically or neurological.

We observed her carefully over the next few days.
We wanted to give her a Christmas name but have had a couple of dogs named Holly so...Ivy!!

After a week in quarantine, we declared her distemper and rabies-free. Sadly, without any possibility of an MRI scan, we can't tell just what is causing Ivy's inability to see.

She may have head trauma from an accident, or brain infection as she has lost her ability to perceive the space and distance of things around her. She can hear and see a little so it's possible her eyesight will improve as she is still very young.

Sometimes, the best thing to do for some of our more vulnerable puppies is to find foster carers that can give them one to one attention until we find an adopter.
Little Ivy went to stay with Chelsea on 10 January 2022 for a couple of weeks (thanks Chelsea!). We hope the break from the noise and bustle of the Sanctuary will do her some good, and she begins to recover her senses some more.
