FRIA

fria - ADOPTED 22 MARCH 2021

Fria was rescued in October 2020 after a young couple noticed her discarded in some garbage.

Her front legs appeared paralysed, but with care and attention from a dedicated foster parent, she has blossomed into a fun-loving and lovable young dog.

fria'S STORY

A young couple noticed what they thought was a dead puppy lying amongst a pile of garbage. They carried on walking but on the way back past the same garbage olie, they took a closer look and realised the pup was still breathing so they immediately brought her to the shelter.
She was clearly paralysed in her front legs as she could not sit up.

This is how she positioned herself.

After examination, our Vet Doctor Riv said both her front legs had been broken probably 2-3 weeks before, (no idea how) as the bones were already fusing and forming callouses. We were unsure if she would be able to walk again but we wanted to give her a chance.
She would need intensive therapy, so we found a foster Stephanie, who was willing to try.   Stephanie owns a resort here on the beach which was perfect for hydro-therapy.

Within a week she was starting to walk and by the end of her time with stephanie – a month later – she was fully mobile.

She is now at the shelter and with the rest of the adult population, and is a delightful little girl – desperate for love and cuddles. She gets on with all the other dogs and is a bundle of energy. Her best friends are Corri and Lara, who she spent a few months in the puppy run with.

Fria's development has been remarkable, all due to the care her foster mum Stephanie gave her.  Check out these short clips of Fria before and after her therapy.  If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please click here to find out more.

Fria Adopted March 2021

March 24, 2021

Finally! Fria has been adopted into a wonderful home. Olga and Abby are supporters of DAS and Have followed Frias story from the beginning.  They couldn't bear to see Fria not get a home so they adopted her.

She has a HUGE garden to play in and four new siblings who were excited to meet her.  Here she is leaving the Sanctuary. She actually looked really sad!

Fria Update March 2021

March 21, 2021

Fria has now settled into life in the general population as she is out of the puppy run. She is like a little live wire and doesn't stop running around and playing. She plays mostly with Corrie and Lara the two black puppies that were in quarantine with her. Unfortunately for Fria (but lucky for us and them) Corrie and Lara were just adopted together by a foreigner who owns a resort here.

Fria has been with these two constantly since November / December last year but she is so sociable we are sure she will be ok.

We have started leash training her - one of our volunteers Jonathan took her out yesterday but she refused to move from the Shelter. He had to carry her to the end of the walk and then she walked very hurriedly back!
We are still hoping we can find a good home for her especially given her tragic start in life.  She really is the sweetest little girl, jumping over visitors and licking them.

Fria March 2021

She has developed a bit of a fungal infection over the last couple of weeks which is very common at the shelter. It affects their fur - we now have to bath her 3 times a week with Mycocide shampoo to get rid of it.
