Every Life Matters
We have to sadly report that although poor Wadi's mobility issues were being addressed by the new hydrotherapy pool, she died suddenly of unexpected causes. This happens sometimes, and we just have to be grateful for our time with them, and that they knew love and care at the end.

Champ was one of seven adult dogs rescued from the Dumaguete City Pound on 1 December 2022. He was in such a poor shape, he just didn't make it

Chloe was rescued from certain death by starvation through a generous donation from Probears Gummys on 25 October 2022. We had been feeling really hopeful as she was starting to eat and gain strength, but after a couple of weeks of slow progress, she started to get weak again and stopped eating and couldn't stand up. The vet put her back on IV but couldn't find a vein in her legs so had to insert into her neck. Our staff had gone to Animal Wellness to spend time with her and take her some chicken. She died around 15 mins after they left the clinic, on 9 November 2022.

We are truly heartbroken as she was so close to living her best life. An anonymous donor had covered her whole treatment costs and was going to adopt her once she was well.
We believe that the damage to her body result in her heart being weakened. We brought her back to the Sanctuary and gave her a service and a proper burial.
We are so sorry Chloe. We take comfort in the fact that you were absolutely loved for the short time we had you. Thank you to the donor for caring so much, to everyone who sent well wishes and donations and to Doc Gama and his clinic staff who tried so so hard to save her
We have some really sad news. The little puppy with the burn passed away on 25 October 2022. He started to get weaker and weaker and despite doing everything we could, he didnit make it.
We had called him Evan.
As soon as he passed we took his brother - Eddie - to one of our trusted fosters Marmel for one to one care as he would have been isolated as he is too small to go in the puppy run.
Rest in peace little Evan - we are so sorry we couldn't save you. Both were abandoned and left to die in the road.

We have some extremely sad and very unexpected news to share. Little Ollie died suddenly today, 17 October 2022. We rescued him at 4 months old after he got hit by a car that left him lying on the side of the road. His leg was fractured too severely to heal so we had to wait for him to get a bit older to amputate his leg.
He was always SO happy and pleased to see us. He never let his disability get in the way of playing with the other dogs. You can see his profile here.

He had his amputation on Friday 14 October and the surgery went really well. Prior to surgery we did full blood tests which showed everything was normal and he was very healthy. After the surgery he was lively, eating and had no diarrhoea or vomiting and no infection at the surgery site.
Then on Sunday evening he started to get lethargic and wouldn't eat his dinner so night staff monitored him closely. The next morning we did blood tests which showed his kidney function had rapidly deteriorated - but this was strange as there were none of the obvious signs of kidney failure.

We took him straight to Animal Wellness so that we could get him thoroughly tested but there was no vet available until the afternoon so we took him back to the Sanctuary. On the drive back, Ollie had a seizure. We tried to do CPR in the van and all the way back Alvin did mouth to mouth resuscitation and chest compressions. We called Doc Pierre and he rushed to the Sanctuary to meet us.
We gave him first aid, oxygen, etc. but he never regained consciousness. We have no idea exactly what happened - but it's likely that he had a reaction to the anaesthesia which shut down his organs. The deterioration was so rapid that we can't find anything else to explain it. Ollie had an adopter waiting for him after he had healed from his surgery - he was so close to living his best life. Ollie was such a special little boy.
