Bruce Update March 2021

This month we have been attempting to leash train Bruce but attempts so far have been unsuccessful! Here he is trying to hide from us when we tried to put him on a leash!

We can't try for long each time as it will traumatise him if we chase him. It took us so long to gain his trust and get him to where he is today, we don't want to break that trust. So we will try and do it slowly.

He is now much more sociable and will sit and let us pet him and also sometimes approach us for attention. But he just does not want to go on a leash.

Bruce March 2021

He is now much more sociable and will sit and let us pet him and also sometimes approach us for attention. But he just does not want to go on a leash. He is very attached to our Caretaker Ding - Ding is the only one who can pick him up - though thats not easy as he is around 27 kilos!  Health wise he has had no problems - in fact he is probably one of the healthiest dogs we have as he never gets sick.

Hairy Update March 2021

Over the last few weeks we have noticed his fur starting to look a little pink in places which indicates a fungal infection. It's a common problem at the shelter as the dogs live outside and the fungus grows everywhere. The only way to deal with this is to bathe them in mycocide shampoo two to three times a week - which is what we have been doing with Hairy.

He doesn't like the bathing one bit!

We have also begun to try and leash train all the dogs now that we have more staff. We are trying to spend as much individual time with each dog as possible. We started just getting him used to the leash on his neck but he was not ready to walk yet.

Hairy is really shy of strangers but is very friendly with me, Rudylun and and the caretakers.  Apart from his skin problem, he has been OK health-wise this month.

He doesn't spend as much time with Hairy as he used to - though they still sleep in bowls next to each other. He has now started a friendship with Judy, but he still loves his bestie Hairy!

Iron Update March 2021

Iron has had a good month - no illnesses or injury whatsoever, and he is still as playful as always.

He is one of the healthiest dogs at the shelter as he never gets sick.  He would be very adoptable if we could leash train him so we did attempt to this month but he fought hard against it. We will continue trying to do this slowly over the next month.

He just loves playing and loves people! Jonathan one of our volunteers spends a lot of time with him when he comes to the Sanctuary.  We gave him a bath this week, which he doesn't need often as his fur is really healthy and shiny but we need to try and keep it that way. Here he is being carried for a bath!

He doesn't spend as much time with Hairy as he used to - though they still sleep in bowls next to each other. He has now started a friendship with Judy, but he still loves his bestie Hairy!
