Dog Update

Beth

Beth

On 29 August 2021, we rescued a stray dog with severe, but treatable TVT - a cancer of the vagina in her case. Beth seemed to be responding well to the treatment, and was very affectionate towards Christine who rescued her. As September progressed, she suddenly stopped eating - never a positive sign in a dog.

We took a blood sample, which revealed advanced kidney failure.  We immediately stopped her TVT treatment and put her on an IV and renal failure medication to help clear her kidneys, but over the subsequent days, even with round-the-clock nursing care provided at Animal Wellness, she passed away shortly after a visit from Christine, on Monday 28 September 2021.

We tried everything we could to help Beth, and had a wonderfully generous response from our supporters who quickly raised the funds for the TVT treatment that benefited Brown and Blake as well.  It is such a shame that we couldn't get her through her complicated and severe medical problems, but she knew love at the end.  She was such a gentle soul.  She just loved being loved.

Roxy Adopted!

Roxy Adopted!

The final Super Saturday adoption!

Roxy was an early Christmas gift, dumped in a sack on 24 December 2020 outside the Sanctuary.  She was an immediate hit with the staff and volunteers, being a bundle of energy and very affectionate.  We couldn't be happier that after a long wait, she has been taken in by Eren, who adopted Biscuit earlier in the year, so Roxy will have a playmate!

We're not denying we are a little sad to see Roxy go - she loved walks with volunteer Jonathan, where she would run free, tumbling and tussling with Tin Tin - but this is what DAS is all about; taking in the unwanted and unloved, showing them care and affection, possibly for the first time in their unfortunate lives, and finding them the homes they deserve to spend their days with love and dignity.

If you think you could provide a home for life, without cages and chains, for one of our rescues, then please get in touch.  There are so many worthy dogs waiting for you on the Rescues page.

You can find out more about Roxy on her profile page here.  Bye bye Roxy, and good luck!

Lauren Adopted!

Lauren Adopted!

Super Saturday adoption number three of four!

Brothers Michael, Harold and Mom Are Fe are the proud owners of the truly adorable Lauren.  Abandoned along with Isla Mae in the road near the Sanctuary after clearly being well looked after (they smelled of shampoo.....), Lauren is a happy, energetic little soul, who now has a second chance at life.  We hope her sister Isla Mae is not far behind!  Good luck Lauren!!!

Brown Adopted!

Brown Adopted!

Super Saturday adoption number two of four!

Brown was abandoned on the street by a neighbour of Stephanie, so she fed him regularly until he disappeared for six months.  When he returned, he had contracted cancer and would have died a long and agonising death had Stephanie not agreed to raise funds for his treatment, and adopt him when he was better.

We are delighted to say that following surgery, and a course of chemotherapy, Brown is well enough for Stephanie to bring him back home.  Such an excellent way to end a story of abandonment and a welcome boost to us to know that there are people out there willing to support these seemingly impossible recoveries.   You can find out more about Brown on his profile page here.

Chemo treatments like this are expensive, and we are desperately short of funds.  If you can spare a few dollars or pesos, even a small amount, it can make such a difference.  Two further dogs, Beth and Blake benefited from the medication we were able to buy with the support of donors like you.  Please help us save more lives by visiting our Donations page.

Levi Adopted Again!

Levi Adopted Again!

Super Saturday adoption number one of four!

Levi was originally adopted on 11 September 2021, but was returned a short period later as the owner had developed an allergic reaction to him.  Luckily for Levi, Daniel came along and swept him up in his arms for a second chance at a permanent home. You can find out more about Levi on his profile page here.

Finding a permanent, loving home is the ultimate goal for our rescues at DAS.  If you think you could provide a home for life, without cages and chains, for one of our rescues, then please look for more information here.
