Tula and Olaf off on their travels!

Tula and Olaf of on their Travels!

tula

We have some amazing news to announce - two of our dogs are off to BELGIUM!  A few months ago, Joran and Alyssa were visiting the area as Alyssa is originally from Dumaguete, while Joran is from Belgium. They came to visit the Sanctuary and spent a few days with the dogs - and fell in love with Tula and Olaf.
Olaf was rescued in October 2021 - an owned dog who was left outside on the street in all weather - he was only around 3 months at the time.  Tula was rescued in June 2022 from Robinsons Mall - she was thin with severe mange.
Allyssa flew back to Dumaguete last week to pick up both of them and they are currently staying in her family's house in Dumaguete while they prepare for the journey to Belgium at the end of the month.

Overseas adoption is not an easy process. The first step is to check the regulations of your own country but the majority of countries require a Rabies Titre Test. Blood needs to be taken and sent to a lab in the US or another accredited laboratory. This costs around 500 usd. Sometimes the dog does not pass the test - it's to assess the level of rabies antibodies in the blood.
After the test results have been received, arrangements can be made for the dog to fly. Dogs are not allowed in the cabin of most airlines so have to go in the cargo hold. If you are accompanying the dog, the cost is not so expensive as it goes as excess baggage. Using a pet transport company if you can't come is likely around 3000 USD. The whole process can take up to 3-5 months.
Thank you Alyssa and Joran for making such an effort to give Tula and Olaf a wonderful life with you both. We are so happy for them but will miss them dearly!

Waffles

Waffles

We have some really sad news to share. Waffles passed away 17 April 2023 at the Sanctuary.
Thank you to everyone who donated for him. We will transfer the donations to Edna and Philippa.
From the moment we rescued him he wasn't alone. All critical patients have a vet assistant 24/7.

He always had someone stroking him and cleaning him and trying to entice him to eat.
It's tragic to think of how he suffered but this makes us even more determined to push forward with our spay and neuter campaigns. It's the only way we will ever see an end to this suffering.
Run Free Waffles. We hope you felt the love, even for just one week.  You can read more on his profile page
here.

Dobi Adopted!

Dobi Adopted!

Dobi

Dobi was starved and neglected, then ruthlessly dumped on the road to our Sanctuary. We know all the dogs in our area, and we were certain that he wasn’t from around here.
It was clear that he had been through a lot both physically and mentally. But as he regained his weight and strength, his confidence grew.
Right from the start there was a lot of interest from people who wanted to adopt Dobi. One of these people was Marky, someone we know well and who had adopted from us before. We were certain that he would be able to give Dobi a loving home.
Dobi immediately got along well with his new siblings, and he’s been having so much fun with his new family.
Thank you Marky for adopting Dobi. We wish you nothing but happiness together!

You can read more about Dobi on his profile here.

Milo’s New Life

Milo's New Life

Milo and Nicki

Many of you will remember Milo. He is doing so well in his adopted home with Nicki and Jamie at KooKoo's Nest.  It took us 2 years to find the right people for him. But it was well worth the wait.
He is so loved.

Salvador

Salvador

One of our oldest residents, Salvador He passed away at midnight 24 March 2023 at Animal Wellness. He wasn't alone, the night staff were with him and tried to revive him. Salvador was a very old dog when we rescued him on March 9, 2022, just over a year ago. He had multiple issues when we rescued him- congestive heart failure, thyroid problems, he could hardly see or walk. He also had chronic bronchitis and bladder stones.

We gave him the best care we could and pretty much all of his issues resolved except his heart and bronchitis - which kept coming back.
He was very comfortable for the whole of the year. He had a comfy donut bed in the consultation room and went out for walks every day, which he thoroughly enjoyed.  He really was a happy soul, but time marches on and in the end, his heart gave out.
We are always tremendously sad when we lose one of our dogs as we are so attached to them all. Sometimes all we can do is make the end of their lives comfortable and happy and let them know that they are loved.
It was a privilege to be able to get to know him, to spend time with him and to love him.
Run free sweet boy - we loved you so very much.  You can read more a bout Salvador on his profile page
here.
