What a great weekend of adoptions!  We had 4 puppies adopted - Zack, Polly, Nia and Addy! Plus 8,700 pesos in donations and sales from t-shirts and mugs.  Thank you to everyone who donated, adopted and just came to say hi!

Addy, male

It's wonderful to see these young dogs adopted while they are still in their puppy months.  We see far too many puppies turn to adults, and then it becomes more problematic to find them a home.

Please consider adopting from us. You will be helping us in our mission towards a stray free Dumaguete.
If you have room for one more dog or cat in your home, please message the inbox.

Announcing our Adopt a Stray Programme

Announcing our Adopt a Stray Programme

Puppy pyramid

With nearly 200 rescues in a small space, we are at a capacity where bringing any more dogs in will jeopardize the wellbeing of the dogs we have.

We always rescue dogs who are in absolutely critical condition, but there are many more we would really love to help but can't. Nevertheless, we always try to find ways, such as our Adopt a Stray Programme.  So long as we have someone who has agreed to adopt and signed a contract assuming ownership, we will treat any stray for free, vaccinate, neuter, deworm and ensure good health if the person who reports will adopt.

It's free for the adopter, but isn't of course free for DAS, so if you can contribute any donation, however small, please help us.

Sandy – Adopt a Stray

Sandy

On 7 November 2023, under our "Adopt a Stray" programme, we rescued a young stray dog who was destined to be adopted by their reporter once she had been returned to health by us. She is called Sandy, and is a lovely, happy soul!

The person who reported her saw her hanging around outside her house, on a busy main road. She agreed to adopt her and signed a contract assuming ownership. She called her Sandy and she was bought to the Sanctuary for rehabilitated. Just look at all the ticks in her ear! One more little soul off the streets.

Lou – Adopt a Stray

Lou

Lou

Lou

In November 2023, under our "Adopt a Stray" programme, we rescued an older stray dog who was destined to be adopted by their reporter once she had been returned to health by us. She is called Lou, and her road to recovery will not be an easy one.

We picked up the little Daschund cross Lou on 7 November 2023. One lady stepped up for this little girl, so we went looking for her and found her lethargic. People in the area have been feeding her and said she did have an owner but they moved and left her.

She had dangerously low red blood cells, Anaplasma and Ehrlichia - two tick borne diseases - plus Pyometra, an infected uterus. She will need surgery but had to recover her red blood-cell count and deal with the other diseases first.

When her blood count improved slightly, we decided the surgery couldn't wait, but when we began we discovered she had a very large spleen caused by Ehrlichia. The spleen was in the way of the uterus and needed removing, with her red blood cell count still marginal, continuing with the surgery would have in likelihood killed her.

In a Catch-22 situation, we decided that since she was still active, eating and not in pain, we bought an injection called Epoetin Alpa, which can boost red blood cell production.  Within a couple of days her red blood cells started to increase, and with a cocktail of antibiotics, she got well enough for her spleen to be removed.  She has one final surgery to go to remove her uterus, but we are delighted to say she is now with her adoptive family, getting all the attention and cuddles she needs to get well enough!
