Lugaw – Adopt a Stray

Lugaw

Lugaw (which is a type of Filipino breakfast porridge!) was reported on 7 January 2024 in the Escano area of Dumaguete City.  She was in poor condition generally, but the worst of her problems was the severe neck wound probably caused by a chain or collar that was on too tight, possibly since she was a puppy.

We have had a number of rescues over the years with similar thoughtless wounds, but the prognosis is good, as once the wound is cleaned, and the risk of infection is kept under control, the skin and fur often grows back, as can be seen with
Alix.  On 31 January 2024, she was returned to the people who agreed to adopt her, who will make sure she never has to be chained again.

Mikay

Mikay

We have some really sad news to share. Mikay one of our oldest residents died 28 January 202at around 4pm.
We rescued Mikay 4 years ago from owner neglect and abuse.

Mikay being rescued

She was around 10 years old at the time and had been starved and was riddled with mange. She enjoyed almost four years of happiness and love at the Sanctuary until a few months ago when she developed cancer in her eye. We removed her eye and hoped that was it, but the cancer came back aggressively.

We wanted to give her one more chance with chemo and she had her first session last week. The growth shrank significantly and she perked up, looking like her old self. We thought that she would make it, but she passed peacefully this afternoon.
We didn't try to revive her. It was her time. Run free Mikay. We are so happy we were able to give you four years of food, walks, love and cuddles. Run free sweet girl.

Bhodi adopted!

Bhodi Adopted!

Bhodi

Bhodi

After yesterday's sad news about Mikay, we have some good news.  Remember the abandoned dog Bhodi? We ended up taking him to a second potential adopter but again, the fence was not appropriate. It just wasn't high enough.  Finally, on 29 January 2024, Angel, one of our vet assistants decided to adopt him and called him Rambo. He settled right in with her other dogs and is having a great time!

Another wonderful day at Valencia's Sunday Market on 28 January 2024, where little Fredo found his forever home.  Joyce and family are the lucky new fur parents.  He was found outside Hayahay Restaurant in Dumaguete, starving and full of mange, but his irrepressible character could not be constrained, and he easily won their hearts!  Good luck little Fredo!

Farah adopted!

We have some fantastic news! Farah, one of our young dogs just emerging from puppyhood was adopted on 28 January 2024 at the Valencia Sunday Market.
She is simply the sweetest natured young lady, and has a bright and caring future ahead of her with Avelina and her family.

We were beginning to get worried that she would be another young dog that had missed her opportunity to find a family, as once rescued puppies grow up, they sadly become less desirable to many adopters.  Luckily, she turned on her charm at Valencia and became irresistible as we know she is!  Good luck Farah, we will miss you!
